Incog Holster

At this point in time I, like most individuals who carry a concealed firearm have a drawer full of holsters.  I keep telling myself that each of them has a different purpose or something to try and justify my holster habit, but truthfully its no different than my girlfriend and her pursue collecting habits.  Regardless, I had been thinking about picking up an Incog for quite some time, but kept telling myself that my other holsters serve the same purpose.

Well one evening, I saw that amazon had one for my M&P shield.... and it had prime shipping.  So I thought what the heck and ordered it up.  The most exciting part of the process was the fact that I ordered it at about 9 on a Monday night and received it in the mail the next day!

Overall the incog holster is pretty spectacular, as it works really well for what I need it for.  The Key to this is the simple design and the interesting hooks that are used.  The holster utilizes offset clips that help push the grip of the pistol into your side.  This really aids slimmer people like myself, as most appendix style holsters I have tried really have problems with the grip printing due to the fact that it doesnt really 'tuck into' the body like the incog does.

For a completely hard holster it is actually pretty comfortable, which I might attribute to the 'tactical fuzz' which is the felt like stuff on the outside of the holster.  Its important to note that its still not more comfortable than my stealthgear appendix carry rig, but it does conceal better!

Issues:
Ive had a couple of issues, first the tactical fuzz might be a bit to grippy and actually tends to pull the front of my undergarments down.  Not significantly, but just enough where I can tell and it becomes slightly annoying.

Secondly, the holster is a tad wider than it might need to be.  I dont run the holster with a mag caddy, but have a slight issue with where I would like to carry the holster and where the clips line up on my belt.  It appears that the clip generally lines up with the center line (where the button is which becomes and issue) and the majority of my pant belt loops which is just a tad annoying.

Finally, the end of the holster tends to not adjust as nicely as some other holsters when I go to sit down.  For example some holsters easily ride up a bit to accommodate your leg when you sit down, but this one tends to need a bit of a nudge to achieve that adjustment.

Even with the slight issues I have found, this holster is top notch and has actually become my current go to for appendix carry.  More and more I am carrying appendix style, which tends to be due to the clothes I wear.  If I am wearing my casual clothes (not a long sleeve or long shirt) I go with the appendix however if im wearing a flannel or a longer shirt I go with my typical 5 o'clock IWB method.

Since picking up the incog, it has been the only appendix rig I have been running.  Pick one up, you wont be disappointed!

Raven Concealment Holster

If you have ever watched Magpul's Art of the Dynamic Handgun, then you have certainly seen raven concealment holsters in action.

Raven Concealment Holsters (RCH) are some of the greatest holsters out on the market today.  The holsters are a kydex pancake style that have a number of different mounting options and color options.

I first bought a raven concealment phantom holster for my M&P Shield right after getting my CCW.  I had spent a ton of time online looking at reviews, watching videos, and examining all the potential options available and thought I couldnt go wrong.  Well, lets just say since then I have bought a few other holsters.

I ordered the holster with the soft loops and I intended to wear the holster at the 4 o'clock position IWB, however I quickly found out how uncomfortable it was.  Its just the nature of the Kydex pancake style holster that they are hard, and as such didnt really conform to my body.  Regardless the quality is second to none.

Heres a mini timeline of what I have bought from them

Phantom holster for M&P Shield with soft loops
-
Sent holster back for a 'skinny bend' adjustment
-
purchased tuckable soft loops
-
purchased offset wings
-
purchased pancake wings
-
purchased phantom holster and dual mag carrier for glock 17

So Ive spent some money on my holsters and I have found them to be really great for OWB use.  They are super thin and really have amazing retention.  Kydex holsters didnt quite cut it for purely IWB carry at 4-5 o'clock for me.

With that in mind, the holster still gets occasional CCW use as it is thin and I can throw  it in my bag in case I need a back up carry option, and it will get alot of time with OWB applications such as IDPA.

The Glock holster and mag carrier was bough exclusively for my IDPA glock and was purchased as a set brand new for a fraction of the retail price.

So Id like to end with this simple thought:  If you want a really great kydex holster you cant go wrong, however if you intend to make this your everyday CCW holster just be aware that kydex might not be the most comfortable option around!

Stealthgear Oynx IWB Holster

I purchased a stealthgear holster after I received a recommendation from the instructor of my CCW class.  My Instructor stated that stealthgear makes the most comfortable holster he had ever used, which was a pretty bold statement given the fact that he had carried for years, worked for the FBI, and seen/used so many holsters over the year.

I actually was hesitant to go for it as I thought my leather/kydex hybrid holster I had been running on my 1911 was comfortable, however I couldnt be more wrong.

I purchased the Oynx for my M&P shield and it has now served as my go to holster for any time I need to carry.  The holster itself is a hybrid design that utilizes a synthetic backing and a kydex shell.

It truly is super comfortable and a really great holster.  The best part is the ventcore technology - I live in Southern California and it can sure get hot!  Compared to other IWB holsters this holster stays cool.

I run this holster at about the 4:30 position, and it literally disappears behind even the lightest of T shirts.

The holster was so great I actually picked up the Appendix carry model they offer, but there will be another review on that item.

Update:

After months of carrying with this holster it is still my primary means of non appendix carry.  The holster has held up well and really worth its price.  I have even washed it a few times now and have not had a single issue!
